In the first match of this young indoor season, Atomic VIPU was surprised by
Wilmer FC and eventually fell 4-10 to the rugged team from Wilmer.
The Vipuers seemed most surprised by the opening whistle, and quickly fell
behind 4-0 as the defense watched Wilmer's unmarked and uncontained strikers
score some fabulous goals.
Despite being the home team, VIPU was forced to change into their away white
jerseys, and were eventually worn down from having to also wear their home
black underneath. Blair was also slowed by the extra 6 pounds of shorts he
wore.
VIPU did finally get on the board following a pass from Paul which Blair
crossed beautifully into the box for an easy snap header from Alex.
Halftime score: VIPU: 1 - Wilmer: 7.
In the second half VIPU settled down and played even with Wilmer on a goal
from Paul and 2 tallies by Trixie.
With stellar goal play by Tara, and solid midfield performances from Kelley
and Leana, VIPU appears to have the women in place to make a late season
push for the title.
However, aside from Blair's quality cross in the first half, the men often
failed to connect on simple passes and missed several opportunities to
score.
And we all know, if you can't score on the field...
